STUDIO VISIT
Their ability to navigate often dramatic themes with grace and delicacy is one of the most compelling aspects of their work. A memorable example is the piece they dedicated in 2008 to Anna Politkovskaya, the Russian journalist assassinated in Moscow for exposing the atrocities of the war in Chechnya. The artwork speaks for itself: a book pierced by five holes—a subtle reference to the five bullets that struck the journalist.
Lorenzo and Simona Perrone’s studio is a space that feels suspended in time, bathed in an enveloping light that enhances the dominance of white, creating a rarefied and contemplative atmosphere. Here, books are not mere objects—they become true protagonists. They open along the walls, unfolding like the pages of a silent story, transformed into dynamic sculptures that bend, break, and reassemble into shapes that evoke waves, flowing currents, traces of a scarred yet never forgotten past. At times, they appear suspended, almost floating in the air, as if to tell stories that cannot be expressed with words, but only through gesture and emotion.
Each book, despite its fragmented appearance, retains a powerful expressive force that evokes deep and intense emotions, touching invisible chords in the viewer’s heart.
The Perrones’ work is rooted in the artistic avant-garde, yet it comes to life through a completely unique language, where white is never merely a background but becomes a symbol of purity, truth, and a relentless pursuit of the essence of things.
